Fomo Tag Docs

Everything about .fomo names on Solana: how they work, how to claim one, how to build with them, and exactly what the protocol can and cannot do.

Overview

Introduction

Fomo Tag is a name service on Solana. It turns a long wallet address like 7xKXtg2C…9fRq into a short name people can remember, like alice.fomo.

One payment

Pay once in SOL. No renewals, no expiry.

First come, first served

The first valid claim recorded on Solana wins. Every name exists once.

Self-custody

Your claim is signed by your own wallet and stored on Solana, not in our database.

Overview

Why Fomo Tag

Solana addresses are 32 to 44 random characters. People send funds to the wrong address, paste the wrong string and can't tell wallets apart. A name fixes that, and the good names go first.

  • Native to Solana. Claims cost a fraction of a cent in network fees and confirm in seconds.
  • Open by design. Anyone can verify who owns a name by reading public Solana transactions.
  • No subscriptions. The name is yours after one payment.
Using names

Quickstart

  1. Get a Solana wallet such as Phantom, Solflare or Backpack, and add a little SOL for the name and the network fee.
  2. Search your name on the home page. The site checks Solana and tells you if it's free.
  3. Claim. Pick your wallet and approve one transaction. It sends the price in SOL and records fomo:yourname onchain.
  4. Done. The site shows a link to your transaction on Solscan. That transaction is your proof of ownership.
Using names

Name rules

  • 3 to 63 characters.
  • Lowercase letters a-z, numbers 0-9 and hyphens.
  • No hyphen at the start or end.
  • Uppercase is folded to lowercase, so Alice.fomo and alice.fomo are the same name.
Using names

Pricing

LengthExamplePrice
3 charactersabc.fomo0.5 SOL
4 charactersgmgm.fomo0.2 SOL
5+ charactersalice.fomo0.05 SOL

On top of the price you pay only the Solana network fee, usually well under 0.0001 SOL.

Using names

Primary name

If you own several names, the first one you claimed is shown as your primary name. Choosing a different primary name is coming with profile records.

Using names

Records and profile Planned

Attach an avatar, X handle, website and other wallets to your name, visible anywhere .fomo is supported.

Using names

Transfers and trading In development

Every claimed name will be issued as a token to the wallet that claimed it, so it can be sent or listed on Solana marketplaces. Claims made now carry over automatically.

Protocol

Architecture

A claim is one Solana transaction with two instructions:

System transfer
+
Memo "fomo:name"
=
Claim

Payment

The exact price in SOL goes to the Fomo Tag treasury.

Memo

The SPL Memo program records fomo:name, signed by your wallet.

Ownership

The owner is the signer of the earliest successful claim with the full price. Later claims for the same name don't count.

Protocol

Guarantees

  • No expiry. There is nothing to renew.
  • Public proof. Every claim is a public Solana transaction anyone can check.
  • Fair order. Solana decides the order of claims, not our website.
  • Works without us. Anyone can rebuild the full list of names from the treasury's transaction history.
Developers

Resolving names

Read the treasury's history, keep successful transactions whose memo is fomo:name and whose payment matches the price, and take the earliest one. Its signer owns the name.

import { Connection, PublicKey } from '@solana/web3.js'

const con = new Connection('https://solana-rpc.publicnode.com')
const TREASURY = new PublicKey('o3adoVGzFwV7sisDRBcUCZokwicHMcYr137j8RQhq6F')

async function resolve(name) {
  const sigs = (await con.getSignaturesForAddress(TREASURY, { limit: 1000 })).reverse()
  for (const s of sigs) {
    if (s.err || !s.memo?.includes('fomo:' + name)) continue
    const tx = await con.getParsedTransaction(s.signature, { maxSupportedTransactionVersion: 0 })
    return tx.transaction.message.accountKeys[0].pubkey.toBase58()
  }
  return null
}

await resolve('alice') // → '7xKX…9fRq'

Production code should also page through older history and check the payment amount against Pricing.

Developers

Reverse lookup

To find the name of a wallet, run the same scan and keep the earliest valid claim signed by that wallet.

HTTP API Planned

A read-only API will mirror onchain data. Solana always remains the source of truth.

Security

  • No custom code holds your funds. Claims use only Solana's built-in System and Memo programs.
  • You approve everything. The site never sees your keys. Your wallet shows the exact amount before you sign.
  • Race protection. The site re-checks the name right before you sign and again after the transaction lands.

FAQ

Do I ever have to pay again?

No. A name is a one-time payment.

What happens if I lose access to my wallet?

Your name stays with that wallet. Nobody, including the team, can move it for you, so back up your seed phrase.

Can someone take my name?

No. The earliest valid claim on Solana is final.

Can I own more than one name?

Yes, as many as you like.

Is there a token?

There is no Fomo Tag token. Anyone offering one is not us.
